In aqueous solution, CaCl₂ will dissolve as follows:

CaCl₂(s) + H₂O -----> Ca²⁺(aq.) + 2Cl⁻(aq.)

Calcium chloride is a ionic compound that is formed between calcium and chlorine. Ionic bond exists between calcium and chlorine by ionic bond calcium and chlorine held together. When dissolved in water , calcium chloride dissociates giving calcium and chloride ions in aqueous solution.
