So first convert your proper fractions to improper fractions.

5/4 + 11/4

To do that, multiply the whole number by the denominator and add it to the numerator.

Next add the two fractions together. Since the denominator is the same on both fractions, it will remain 4.

16/4

Now reduce it to the smallest fraction you can by breaking it down into prime numbers and crossing them out, one by one.

2*2*2*2

2*2

You will be left with only two 2s. Multiply those together.

2*2=4

Therefore your answer is 4.
