To solve for y, plus in -2 for x. The equation will look like:
y=(-2)^2+1

You must make sure to ALWAYS put negative numbers in parentheses when they are raised to a power.

Now, simply solve the problem:
(-2)^2=4
4+1=5

y=5 is the answer

Hope this helps!
