The natural changes in DNA sequence or mutations help drive natural selection. Beneficial mutations will proceed and be passed along as generations progress, due to increased ability to survive to the changing living conditions an organism is exposed to. The contrary would be the case in the event that a non-beneficial mutation occurs.
