the king (hamlets uncle) requests that gertrude(hamlets mother) have a meeting with him to try and judge if he is crazy. she does, and the only outcome of this meeting is the death of polonius(asked to eavsdrop on them by the king) and the flight of hamlet to escape the kings persecution.
