Henry VIII was the king of England at a time where the Catholic church ran everything about life. Henry wanted to divorce his wife, Catherine, because she did not give him a son. Because the Catholic church did not allow divorce, Henry created the Church of England. The Church of England was in essence the same as the Catholic church, just more lenient.
