"Forged in the crucible of war" is an idiom that means being developed from situations that call for desperate measures. These situations that are referred to is the "war" we have in our life. Each has their own paths in life and each has their own "war" to face. Being exposed to different experiences in "war" forged us into someone who is different than we used to be.
