How were the living conditions of the banana workers working for the United Fruit Company?

Working conditions were horrible for the government nor corporations protected banana workers. Male and female workers work long, harsh hours, up to 14 hours a day in extreme weather conditions. Furthermore, workers are extremely underpaid, not earning overtime much less a livable wage.
