[tex] \frac{y_{2}-y_{1} }{x_{2}-x_{1}} [/tex] = [tex] \frac{3 - 6}{12 - 4} [/tex] = [tex] \frac{-3}{8} [/tex].

The slope is [tex] \frac{-3}{8} [/tex]x.

Slope = change in y / change in x.

Between (4, 6) and (12, 3) represents (x₁, y₁) and (x₂, y₂):

x₁ = 4, y₁ = 6, x₂ = 12, y₂ = 3

Slope = (y₂ - y₁) / (x₂ - x₁) =  (3 - 6) / (12 - 4) =  -3 / 8

Slope = -3/8

I hope this helps.
