x-1=2y
x-1/2=2y/2
y=1/2x-1/2

x-y=12
x-(1/2x-1/2)=12
x-1/2x+1/2=12
1/2x+1/2-1/2=12-1/2
1/2x÷1/2=11 1/2÷1/2
x=23

x-y=12
23-y=12
23-23-y=12-23
-y=-11
y=11
