1/4x + 4 = 1/2x = 2

Subtract 2 from the side.

1/4x + 4 = 1/2x - 2

Subtract 4 from side 1 and side 2.

1/4x = 1/2x - 2 (-4)

Simplify :-)

1/4x = 1/2x - 6

Subtract 1/2x from side 1 and side 2.

1/4x - 1/2x = -6

Simplify.

-1/2x = -6

Multiply both sides by -2.

x = 3
