Why was the invention of penicillin so important in the context of world war II

Penicillin revolutionized the world of medicine, as it allowed doctors and medics during WW2, to provide this painkiller to those who had been injured, and decrease the number of soldiers who were killed from their injuries.

Penicillin was created by Alexander Fleming.
