Combine the 2 equations:

3x-2y=12

-3x+8y=-6

---------------

6y = 6, which tells us that y=1.

Now subst. 1 for y in the 2nd equation: -3x +8(1) = -6.

Then 14=3x, and x = 14/3.

The solution is (14/3,1).
