The width of a singles tennis court is 27 feet. This is 1 foot more than 1/3 of the length. What is the length of the court?

The length would be 78 feet.

27 = 1+1/3 L

We subtract 1 from each side to get 26 = 1/3 L

Then we multiply each side by 3 to clear the fraction.
78 = L
