m - 6 = -12

m = -12 + 6

m = -6

add m and 2m to get 3m

3m-6= -12+2m

Since − 6 does not contain the variable to solve for, move it to the right side of the equation by adding 6 to both sides. m = 6 − 12.
Subtract 12 from 6 to get -6.
m = − 6
