There is some evidence that the Hammurabi Code was designed to protect the weak. In the code, there are strict punishments for people who commit crimes, and fair retribution to the victims is particularly important. In this way, the weak are protected. However, this effect is diminished by the fact that the law does not apply equally to all people, but is instead dependent on social class and status.
