Because if the remainder is greater than the divisor you could divide into it again.

because if the remainder is larger then the divisor then you ate able to divide the remainder by the divisor 1 or how ever many
examples:29÷3.if you say 8r5 you can divide the remainder (5) by the divisor (3)one more time .so 29÷3=9r2.noe it is correct because you can't divide the remainder (2) by the divisor (3)
