Why do you suppose that tom decides to let wilson finally have the car that he has been promising him, even if that means he will lose myrtle?

Tom has just found out that Daisy has been having an affair with Gatsby, so there are a couple reasons that he might be okay with losing Myrtle at this point. First of all, he might feel like he needs to be better to win her attention back and second of all he mentions that they've been talking about moving West and getting out of New York for a while, and might finally do that.
