First, use the multiplication property of equality. Multiply the top equation by 3 and the bottom equation by 2.

30x - 12y = 60
16x + 12y = 28

Now, use the addition property of equality. Add the the two equations.

46x = 88  Use the division property of equality. Divide both sides by 46.

x is about 1.91

If you sub that back in for x, you can solve and find the y is about -0.217.
